I'm sure I'm not the only one heading this way, but personally I came into boating 3 years ago with the idea of changing the direction of my life and seeking a different thrill, having had to sell my rally team due to a serious injury. We have met some really nice people, yourselves included. You know that we planned lenghty passages last year and this which were scuppered by bad weather. Although financing our boating is not an issue, justifying it is. I am paying £500 a month to run the boat, which spends half the year in private no cost dry storeage and very rarely get any further that the Isle of Wight. It will get worse due to the intrancigence of the Government and the need for the industry to raise prices to recoup losses. In no way am I taking a pop at DA at S/Water. It was nice whilst it lasted, but she is on the market.
You've tried boating, and don't see the justification of money spent. Boating will never justify the money spent, it's something you enjoy or don't.
If you have cost free berthing half the year, you are hardly being ripped off, and if you don't get beyond the IoW, that is not the reponsibility of anyone but yourself surely.
Wow you guy's pay a lot for a berth in the UK. Over here in Ireland (West) I pay 150euro for my own berth, and that includes electricity, water, boat lifter, use of the club etc...

You realise we're not talking about a dinghy, right?
Do as I do. Go to boat, get on and have a nice coffee, get of, look at boat, all nice & shiny & then get on again & repeat. Then whilst leaving marina have another look, shiny /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
This way when weather is better I have something to look forward to. As regards to dosh, I like looking at shiny boat more than another buy to let property full of twat losers who don't want to pay for anything if they can possibly avoid it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
That rings a cord ...
We sold a buy to let property, yes full of ...., to buy our boat.
Got rid of hassle for some pleasure - best thing we did no regrets
Weather at moment is terrible sure but spring was very good.
We had briefly considered the holiday cottage but then decided if we dont like the view or weather with a boat you can just un-tie and move elsewhere.

Up to 25ft you just pay your standard membership. Anything over 25ft is 5euro/year per foot. So if you have a 35 footer its 10 x 5 = 50eur extra per year. All in membership for 200euro /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
(My boat is just 25ft so no extra footage to pay - yay). Ah ye UK guy's are full of money ye're well able to afford it, i'm only a wee Irish lad who lives on spuds /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Messed up that 'QUOTE' but you get the idea. Back on topic.... Nothing but rain here also in Ireland. And to make matters worse, boat rally starting today - 3 days of trying to BBQ in the rain
Cost free dry berth was alongside our house on a trailer. Restrictions on time and fact we are so far from Hamble mean that any chance we have of getting away maens that we never get that far.
It's cause we roll over and let it happen over here. I've rallied in Ireland and over there you don't get penalised for being sucessful and try to do somethging with your life.
