When a friend of mine with his new 45 ft boat broke his new Seldon rod kicker in a gybe the supplier queried that he had used it correctly. The owner then responded with " OK well where are the instructions?"
Vang was replaced .
It seems that he should always ( & he confirms that he does) ease the vang prior to a gybe.
Is this a practice followed by owners of larger boats?
Years ago I sailed on boats up to 45 feet & never recall the practice. In fact on one boat the vang was like a dirty great bottle screw & any adjustment would take nearly a minute for a simple tension/ease operation by turning 2 big looped handles.
there was no way we would adjust it. Even in a broach we could not ease it
So do you ease it or not?
