Decided to remove exhaust manifold on Yanmar 3gmd to paint as it was looking pretty rusty. Took the outer cover off and was met with a carbon filled chamber - answer to why not much water ever seemed to exit the exhaust i guess although she never overheated.

Anyway started manually removing build up only for the screw driver to go through the dividing wall - guess thats a new manifold then ! how much are we talking ? i notice its not listed on the marine power website so i guess its furrharking expensive

One for a Yanmar 3ym20 was £210 last year + VAT. Mine had a cracked weld so the local SS man welded it up for £10.

Eahaust Manifold

Thanks for your replies, i wish it was just the elbow but its actually the entire manifold i need to replace

Make one out of galvanized water pipe and elbows. Then have a flange plate made and welded to the elbow.A sipgot tube will have to be welded to allow for water injection as well. The whole thing can't cost you more than £25 and will last for years. If it works for Bukhs it works for Yanmars.

Yes if you can find a good general welder these things can be repaired/strengthened or copied for less than a new one.
One thing I was happy to see in the spares when I bought this boat was a spare Bukh exhaust elbow.
