Russians, it appears, do not have the same attitude to tooling up as many of us here would have....

I can’t watch the video as my connection is too slow.

But the pirates will probably have bigger ones than you.

And it’s always been drummed into me in training if you draw it be prepared to use it. And first.

PW.

Vid is a bridge security team proving that they both have bigger guns and are prepared to use them without checking if the nice small boat coming alongside is just fishermen offering to share their catch.
Pirate skiff skedaddles somewhat urgently.

I figured I t might be I did an STCW course a few years ago with several guys you’d want on your side in a fight! They were very vague about what they actually did.

I have always fancied having a cannon on the foredeck, but SWMBO and various legal restrictions have so far managed to prevent me from this addition.

The UK border guys alway though it was funny that people thought the fire monitor you see under the cover on the foredeck of their cutters was a cannon.

There were a lot of bored squaddies post Iraq/Afghanistan that jumped at the offer to be private-hire guards during the Somali crisis. Think they were missing using their guns in anger.
Oddly, this one was off the Gulf of Guinnea, where piracy is picking up, but private guards are not particularly welcomed by the littoral states. Probably bad memories of tooled up mercenaries helping out the other side during independence conflicts.

I thought it was a gun so I asked them about it. Was very surprised to learn they have no weapons on board but do have a water cannon capable of blasting boats apart.

Last year I worked with someone who, in a previous life, was chief steward on-board various mega yachts. I'm talking over 100 metres. They took on security when they were headed through any potentially risky waters and, yes, that consisted of guys with a fairly handy military past. They used to drive her mad by dumping their kit on her highly-polished surfaces and floors.

I won’t relate the story to save them embarrassment but watching an ‘exercise’ was embarrassing. I would worry if they did.

Whatever f.u are made here in general the training is actually pretty tough. I worked with a guy who would have been perfect for the CBP and they repeatedly denied his application for no reason and then you look at some... He gave up in the end. Experienced marksman and hunter/woodsman/outdoor survival type, committed long term relationship. No debts - everything most LA want.

Sounds about right! :)

I did some close protection work for an acquaintance years ago in the UK. Absolute nightmare - it was like a game for them to lose you and go and spend Daddy’s money.

I did it once - the money just wasn’t worth the £ and that was unarmed.

I’m still out of work here and maybe could get a guard job at minimum wage but carrying a gun for $14 an hour? No thanks.

...And probably more effective for dealing with pirates on a bumpy sea. though only at close range

Yes, outside of my experience but I believe fire hoses deployed alongside the vessel are one of the best defences.

Maybe others can confirm if not giving anything away.

I could have got this wrong, but she seemed to have the impression that they were pretty well paid for what they did. I don't know how you get into it hough... could be a closed shop.

I worked for a firearms auction house for many years and saw some fascinating items.... One of the most interesting was a twin 40mm Bofors gun that had been rescued, allegedly, from HMS Rodney when she went for scrapping. If you can trim the boat afterwards then something similar might serve well?!

Bring it on, I might get a chance of winning the next race if I can blow that bugger in front of me out of the water!
