Hello All

in 7 sleeps my Love and I are off to the Caribbean for 2 months.

Could anyone tell me what should be in the document bag (as required for customs etc)?

Thanks
Charles

there are only 3 essential documents - certificate of registry, passports and clearance certificate from last port. photocopies are not acceptable.

nice-to-haves include insurance certificate, proof of ownership, certificate of competence, radio licence (ship & operator), vaccination certificate. i have never been asked for any of these.

there is an issue when leaving a country with fewer crew than you arrived with. in that case you need to produce the departing crew member either with outbound air/sea ticket or produce another skipper who confirms he is taking responsibility for the crewman and making sure he leases the country.

lots of animals on this forum... giraffes, leopards... etc :)

Thanks for that snowleopard. What about crew lists?

Cheers

I believe that the French will only accept the original of the insurance certificate, and VAT. Some countries will ask for the de-ratting certificate - suposedly issued from last port of call.

Cornells World Cruising Handbook gives guidance on the needs for each country.

there is a post about crew lists elesewhere. in my experience in the caribbean it's a waste of time, they all expect you to write the crew details on their form in triplicate. crew lists are for big ships.
