Guess the antifoul

Fred Drift ...

I keep my boat in Baltic, which doesn't produce much weed on the boat, but an excellent crop of barnacles instead. Anyone know a good anti-barnacle paint?

Use Shogun it seems far better - on the Orwell at least - I have used it for several years and had very little fouling and virtually no barnacles.

The last 2 years I have only given it a rub down and applied one coat.

Lift out last week. Boat has been in the water since March this year.

Blakes Cruising Performer.

IMHO the key to a good antifoul is choosing the water in which to place it whilst at rest .. the more brackish the better

I agree shogun works better than Emperor. Mine lasts two years.

Did you use your boat much, and in what conditions?

Parked up all summer or sub 3 knts will challenge any antifoul.

Boat went in in April (this year). Two coats, applied about a week before launch in dry conditions
After 4 years of Seajet Shogun, one thin rollered coat each year with a second thin coat around waterline and keel/rudder fronts. Boat launched each year early April out end October, and very little fouling each year on liftout.

This year much more fouling. Not really bad, but substantially more. Falmouth base.

It is curious that Seajet Shogun is cheaper than Emperor and yet seems more effective.

Perhaps the Emperor formulation is targeted at specific types of fouling and not suitable for the UK environment?

I had a pretty clean hull when she was lifted out, without a mid season scrub.
I have to admit that I do have a go with a long brush from the pontoon a few times during the season, and take the opportunity if away from base and moored the other way to attack the port side.

Did all the stuff with the brush too, mostly mid season but I think whatever I'd done I think it would have still been bad. I can't help feeling that the whole antifoul business is rather a rip off. They charge top dollar with no real guidance and absolutely no guarantees given at all. I asked the guys on the lift out which products seemed best. Jotun seems well thought of so I'm gong to give it a go. Cheaper too.
Still cross with Seajet

Jotun is fine, just make sure you buy the right one. Also can vary a lot in quality between tins. I'm using Hempel this year. Hemple now own Blakes so I guess its possibly a version of Blakes.
