Guard wire terminal help

I would unscrew the upper bit (per the picture) and see how the lower bit grips the end of the non-steel (dyneema perhaps?) wire/rope. It may be possible to cut 20mm from the end and reuse the fitting. Or cut more and insert a bottle screw so that you can tension the rope more easily. Or decide that the slight amount of slack is only a cosmetic deficiency and leave it asis.

I had guard wires like this many years ago, pre-dyneema. From memory it works very similarly to a Norseman fitting, with a cone that can be re-used, polyethylene or similar.

Might be a Parafil guardwire. Had a brief popularity for guardwires some years ago but I believe the offshore racing regs disliked it. If it is Parafil the terminals can normally be re-used.

Im adding a pelican clip and fork adjuster to tension it, but didnt want to destroy it only to find I couldnt re-use the fitting. The Parafil ones sold by seascrew look very very similar. I hope that I can pop it out with a light application of Hammer#1 and a punch of some sort after cutting it off.

Well - I cut the end off 
and then tried to get the 'cone' out. Nope. Not having it. didnt budge. Heated it up a bit, and something melted, and dropped out a weird, very light but very hard sort of cone. I have a feeling the PO may have epoxied the end in, as well as the cone. I whittled it down to a sort of cone, shoved it back in with the fabric splayed, and tightened it all back up. Seems ok.... I may well epoxy it too....
