Guard rails - what a rip off.

I decided to replace the guard rail on my Jag 22 this morning. I popped into the local chandlers based in the Marina and was quoted £147 + VAT. (just 2 lengths of 5 metre 5mm wire with eyes).

Thankfully, I walked out in disgust. When I got home I called the local boatyard who have quoted just £34 inc of VAT and INCLUDING eyes and shackles, AND that is 6mm not 5mm.

Just goes to show that the chandlers are rip off merchants, I know they have large overheads and so on.... but £147 + VAT!

You will probably get a better deal from riggers. We got ours from Southern Spars (year before last), took old ones in and had them within 15 minutes. Cost was 40 quid with the fittings, would have been a bit less for a Jag 22.

Especialy when you consider they won't actually guard you if you were to fall on them. They would just take a layer of skin from you as you disappear over the side.
