Hi,
Any suggestions on the best place to get some guard rail wire? I need about 10-15 metres but haven't measured the diameter yet.

I have some 5mm you can have for the price of postage, will have one swaged loop just requires another once you have cut to size.

It is my old rigging, perfectly good condition except it reached maturity as far as the insurance was concerned.

5mm might be a little heavy for guard wires though, tis up to you. Offer open.

Re: uses for old rigging wire

You know I've had my last lot of rigging hanging up in the shed waiting for a good use, I shall bear that one in mind. Apart from making up some really serious looking raspberry supports and stringing a mains cable from the house to a shed, its all still there.

I got my last lot from Jimmy Green Marine. Just give them the measurements and he'll cut to size and give you a choice of end pieces.

PVC covered? - nowadays it's not recommended as corrosion can lurk underneath and therefore can break in anger. Also a cheap stainless may be used which will accelerate the corrosion process. Stainless Steel is much better exposed to the elements. I would use 4 or 5mm diameter When you measure, make it about 4 - 5 inches shorter so a lanyard can be used at the cockpit end.

Thanks for all the responses.
The existing stuff is PVC covered, and has corroded where it goes through the stanchion and has rubbed.
I was thinking 'naked' replacement would be better.
