Got a few friends joining us while in London and had planned a few visits including one to the British Library.Silly old me expected it to be open !
Mrs Oldgit,AKA,"the first wife" ,being of a bit suspious nature, checked their website.......CLOSED...... over the bank holiday period, both this and the one next week.
Remember being caught out this way before. When we stayed in Chelsea Harbour a few years ago we trucked half way across the old smoke only to find the British Museum was closed cos it was .......wait for it ....a Bank holiday.A crowd of amazed tourists standing around spoke volumes :(
And afor anybody mentions about everybody deserves a day off,its bit like all the lockies getting August bank holiday Monday off. Grumble Grumble.

I know two Trustees of the British Museum. Once when in conversation with them they showed a remarkable lack of knowledge about the running of the museum. Indeed if anything they seemed as if they couldn't care less.

Your comment on the wedge of non-plussed Tourists is very telling. I'm sure the money these folk would have spent on souvenirs, refreshments and other itsy bitsies would not only pay staff overtime but would turn in a profit too.

It's high time Museums and the like realised that Bank Holidays are the very time that families are out and about. As regards Tourists, heaven help us, what do they know about our Bank Holidays?

Oh dear, sounds very much like another organisation we here are all too familiar with !

Yeah, well, I'd like to know why everyone needs to have a day off work just because some 'copter pilot and his girl friend are getting married.I mean, it's not as if we've all been invited , is it? And rumour has it they picked a Friday 'cos the caterers and the church etc were cheaper than they would have been on a Saturday.

Anyone worked out what the cost to commerce and industry is going to be?

And what about us pensioners - we wouldn't be working anyway so it's hardly a day off for us !

Someone will mention the banks next! ... lose fortunes, put countries + thousands of workers and firms in jeoperdy, then cannot provide enough staff to cope at lunchtimes or late afternoon/early evening and weekends, when man in the street wants to do banking.
They'll be wanting me to do it on-line next!
