Grub Screws

SWMBO wanted to help at home so I gave her the knob (that switched the bathwater from the taps to a handheld shower) to fit on securely.

Left it with the allen key engaged. Now lost the tiny grub screw probably only 3mm dia and 5 mm long.

The taps were imported from Italy (v expensive!) so may prove difficult to source just the screw.

Can anyone suggest a screw supplier that can source grub screws (I accept I may have to buy 100!)

A realy good hardware shop may be able to help.

It is almost certainly going to be a metric thread eg M3 try to determine the size by gauging the inner (core) diameter, with some small drills or bits of wire and a vernier gauge perhaps, and then refer to a table of thread sizes to get the
"M" size.

If you cannot get a socket type grub screw cut a bit off an ordinary screw and cut a slot in the top so that you can use a screwdriver on it.

Otherwise forget the knob and buy a mole wrench to keep in the bathroom.

Try your local bike shop. They use dozens of 'em and are quite likely to have the right size kicking around. How do I know? I run a bike recycling project.

If you don't get one and are ever around Jcn 14, M6 bring the knob in & I will sort you one out. Steve K

All failing buy a cheap toilet roll holder from B&Q, the type that has the hidden fixing bracket, and is attached to this bracket by screwing in a small grub screw on the bottom edge of the decorative cover, altough it is usually a blade type screwdriver not allen key type.
Better still just nick the screw out of it rather than buying it, or keep the reciept and after nicking the screw take it back.
BUT DONT SAY I TOLD YOU.!!!

If all else fails : over the male part stretch a wide elastic band
(as is stretches it gets thinner) slip the female part over, release tension, snip of the loose ends, job done. Just dont try to get it off, ever !
