Grrrr... heating broke again

As the nights draw in and the BBC weather symbols begin to turn blue we thought it might be a good idea to give the Eberspacher a quick warm through.... not

For the second time in less than 12 months it failed to keep going longer than 5 minutes. Last time the fault was blamed on the damp but now all the wiring is in a nice dry watertight housing. So HWMBO checked the lift pump - clear, checked every wire connection - all OK.

Botheration... another expnsive and chilly winter seems to be looming. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Looks like thats what we'll be doing when the time comes - we had plenty of practise last winter!

I have just fitted a second oil lamp in our cabin and so doubled our heating capacity. Luxury!

Ah now that's something you might be able to advise on... we're planning to put up a couple of oil lamps ourselves this winter as a more cosy alternative to the halogen lighting... what have you installed?

I've got one of these Fastnet oil lamps. Excellent. The heat shield/reflector is also gimballed so nice at night underway too.

Either the Glow plug is duff or Gauze surround is clogged, provided batteries up to producing enough volts.

I'm afraid I don't know what make they are. One came with the boat and I found an identical second-hand one in Ffoulkes Chandlery Barge on the Hamble. Have a look at the Toplicht website to see some of the many kinds that are available.

This firm [Peter Noonan] is very helpful too. I have not bought complete lamps from them but I have had spares from them. They also produce a leaflet giving advice on getting the best results from your oil lamp; very useful if you are not extremely old and have never lived in a house with oil lamps!

There's nothing quite like getting a sulky Eberspacher working properly quite like making it feel unwanted.
My ex-Ebay jobbie would sit giggling at the dog and I sitting wet through in the cabin taunting us with its "click-click" and wheezy breath.
Just when we thought the cold draught coming out of the fisheye was getting slightly warmer than a chinook it would die altogether.
Then I got a charcoal stove.
The Eber was turned from a recalcitrant, moody, acne faced teenager into an eager and enthusiastic paragon of the heating world. One quick twist of the rotary controller, it bursts into immediate rude, roaring health.
I could, of course, give it a taste of its own medicine and leave it ignored under the cabin sole, never to be turned on again. But I am a forgiving sort, never bearing a grudge. So it can stay, waiting for the day when it is called to action.
But I won't get rid of the charcoal stoke... just in case.

I have just finished looking at one in the workshop with exactly the same problem!!! it has turned out to be a perished rubber hose at the fuel pump regulator. It appears that the Eber need to receive a continual supply of fuel without any air at all or it gives up the ghost. May be worth checking the clear fuel pipe to see if you detect any air bubbles at all, it seems that even the smallest air bubble will cause the heater to stop heating

we had a simular problem it turned out the heater dident like the deisel from our local supplyer, try a galon of white deisel it sorted it out stright away now we buy our deisel elseware and use an aditive!
