I had a quote for a grp gangplank at over 500 e and decided that it would not be that difficult to make .
My idea is based on surfboard manufacture , PU foam poured into a strong timber mould , adding carbon tube stringers centre and edges
for strength ,then axial mat and glass/epoxy over. adding sand into the top coat /topside for grip .
anyone tried this ?
sizes 2500 x 300 x 40 mm

Mac ,
thanks , who and where is "epoxy Les " , is he out here in the Ionian , maybe he could do me a plank ?

I have a Passerelle made by plastimo. It is aluminium and folds. It is nice and light, but not strong. It is also quite narrow. It is my second, the first having been replaced by Plastimo for gradually bending. This one is going the same way. The Plastimo one weighs 10Kg and is 2m long.

I too would be interested in a honeycomb based passerelle if it were as light as the Aluminium one.

Apologies, grafozz: I quite failed to notice your whereabouts. I have just thrown myself down the companionway by way of penance, breaking several ribs and, worse, spilling an almost full can of Mythos.

'Epoxy Les' is Les Wood, based at Nidri on Levkas island, although he spends many of his working days at the Preveza yards. He's a mine of information on matters grp and a good source of materials. I'm sure he can make a grp gangplank to order.
You can e-mail him at leswood23@gmail.com

The plastimo has box sections down each side with sheet of aluminium inbetween
Afb000.jpg Afb012.jpg The problem is the weak point at the edge of the aluminium sheet that takes all the force

I have wondered about putting some kind of rod underneath to increase the support. Basically it is a poor design for something so expensive

Let me know if you want to know more
