Hello, I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help us out we are interested in Morecombe bay prawners and have been told that Eric Bergquvist of Ferry Boat Yard, Penketh Cheshire took a mould off the Morecambe Fishermen’s lifeboat ‘Sir William Priestley’ that is in the Lancaster Maritime Museum. Does anyone know what has happened to the mould / where it is? Also does anyone have any information on the boats he has built from the mould? Thanks.

I think you are asking about the boats they call Nobbies?????????

If you pay a visit to Liverpool marina there are quite a few of them and I think the owner of Spray is the man to talk too!

I have been told that the moulds are still available but I have no idea from whom. Give the marina a ring 0151 707 6777 they should be able to put you in touch.

Good luck

Tom

We're the proud owners of "Minx" one of the boats made by Eric Berquist from the William Priestley. We bought the bare hull in 1990 and Pete fitted her out, launched in 1996. Spent much enjoyable time cruising the Bristol Channel and Pembrokeshire coast and she's now in Cardiff. We may know of another also based in Wales. Don't know what happened to the mould. Would be very interested in more information if you have it

Hi

You do know there is a difference between a nobby and a prawner? I have been hankering after one for a while now - would deffinetly concider building a fibre-glass one - would be an interesting project.
Similarly however, if anyone hears of such a vessel (or anything of that size) in such a state that it needs moving - so going to a good home for free- then please get in touch!
Time for a slightly bigger boat of myown!

Have a look at my photo-tutor in my signature....

Ooh my first post on classic boat and I own a plastic tub, should I expect a lynch mob?

FWIW as a kid I used to work the odd weekend on a nobby called the Hannah-Hambelton with my Great Uncle, Nobbies have played a big part in my families history over time as a boat of choice. I think one of the family boats was 'the seven brothers', the IVY also past through somewhere before being owned by Harry Jones.

I should delve into some of the family archives one day.

Here is the Hannah-Hambelton when she was still fishing.

Hi

That name rings a bell from somewhere. A school friend's grand father used to own her - Dolan might have been the name - or that may be the family name not associated with the vessel. I remember her saying however that they sold it -
They currently live in Chester - ill see if I can have a word
