We have a relatively large family with four children. For the past five years we hav been sailing a Jaguar 27 out of Brixham but with the children now aged 15, 13, 11 and 8 it's starting to feel cramped.

What recommendations can you give me for a yacht that would accommodate us more comfortably for cruising down in the South West and across the Channel and we could handle if there were only two of us on the boat at weekends?

Many thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum :)
It really depends on how far you want to go with the dosh.
To get 3 double cabins of any size you are going to be looking at least 34' I would have thought, how much are you prepared to spend?

What Boat?

How about a Contessa 34 or if you prefer something older and heavier an Excalliber. I think for room and a decent sailing ability the contessa may be the thing. Obviously your budget will dictate to a point.

That's an easy question to answer.
Seems as if the children are old enough to take some responsibility, God knows there are enough "Juvinile Blondes" (trying to go) sailing the oceans these days.
I would buy a second Jaguar 27!
Then when the family go afloat you can support, compete and go in opposite directions when there is a disagreement.
;-)
have fun

Never thought of the second Jag27 - what an interesting idea - not sure that I could manage all of the maintenance required - family tend to disappear when the mucky jobs need to be done.

If they're anythng like mine about 15 years old is when they stop wanting to go sailing with their parents. You might find you don't need the space pretty soon.

There is a Countess 33 down your way on boatsandoutboards if you want bilge keels & lots of tubby space. Get them into kite surfing & the countess will be forgiven for her stately performance. I'd have had a look at her meself - but I just got one!!!
