Now I know we don't do anchor discussions here and I want to have a CQR type anchor despite what anyone else says!

Just having a mental block and before I place an order for new anchor / chain etc just appreciate a check over on the sizes I am planning to buy.

Flipper - 27' Disp 4600 lbs approx. Mainly East Coast sailing - draft 1.4m range 4 - 5m so anchoring in 7.5m ish 3 x scope with chain - 22m.

So going for 30m chain, 20m rope and 12kg anchor - is this about right or should I have another 10m of chain?

30mts grade 30 8x24mm Galvanised chain @ £2.55 per mtr inc vat
20mts 14mm Multiplait Nylon @ £1.55 per mtr inc vat
1 x 12kg Plough Anchor @ £28.75 inc vat
1 x S/S Anchor Swivel @ £16.95 inc vat
1 x Rope to chain splice @ £10.00 inc vat

Total inc vat = £163.20

Peter, careful on the cheap CQR copies - they have been known to bend both shank and tip.

A real, forged CQR is 386 quid for 25lbs......

How about a genuine Delta, arond 110 quid. A lot of those in our parts.

i have on a 37 ft boat
10kg bruce,30m 8m/m chain + 30 m 18m/m anchorplatt
a 35Lb Gen CQR under the port q/berth Oodles of 18m/m 3 strand in my shed to go with it.
ok 4 the sailing we do ( Landguard & Back ) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ( b 4 guapa gets a chance )

i'd support Jim... go for a Delta or similar..... I was shocked when I first plonked it in the mud at how much quicker and more firmly it bit than the old CQR......

But otherwise.... your chain amounts and anchor weights sound like more than enough...... its not far off what we carry on a 40'er!

As it happens I have a 10Kg Delta going spare for £50 if you are interested. It came off my Moody 31.The Delta is good but my Rocna is better.I am known to several East Coasters on the forum so not a chancer.I live in N.Suffolk so give me a PM if interested.

You can have my old CQR copy. I can vouch for it's strength, it saw me all the here from Oz. Its 35 lbs, so a bit bigger, and its not new, but it is cluttering up the shed, and I'd be happy to pass it over.

We are 36ft, weigh 6.5 tonnes without fuel, water & beer and anchor a lot. Have 30m chain and 30m Warp attached to a 16kg Delta! Swapped from a CQR (still here in my garage if you want it! - I don't!) and wouldn't swap back!

45lb CQR for a donation to RNLI? Wouldn't want to use it as a bower, as the previous owner said it was unreliable. (Might have been something to do with it being the Med, and boat being 20t of course)

If you look at EYE Co anchor prices, you have no excuse not to have a stern anchor though! (£32 for a 30lb sand anchor) Great stern anchor (should buy one myself /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

Are you sure?

If so... then that would be great.... I only have one on board at present so could do with a second to use a stern anchor, and a spare Bower in emergencies...

A healthy donation to the RNLI would most in order.....

Bargain. And no ebay in sight.

Thats what is truly great about the East Coast Swap Shop.

I'll be more than satisfied with the other one, thanks, and a Fisherman would probably be one too many anyway
