Griff\'s boat

Didn't know he was a sailor - got invited on board. He's spent £250k on her - lifting keel 1950's german-designed bermudan. Really beautiful!

Re: Griff\'s boat

He was a bit pi55ed off that her planks were already showing signs of slight springing plus a "commercial" crew had damaged her topsides by mooring on a buoy which chafed the topsides rather badly.. Her deck woodwork was really beautifully varnished and although cramped below by modern standards she has a full complement of electronics. Everyone was very friendly..
I gather his passion is not shared with his wife though!

The Germans have certainly built some beautiful craft in their time. And they do like their varnish!

Well that's just stupid, for £250K he could have got himself a nice Bavaria (also german) and saved himself a lot of varnishing.

Re: Griff\'s boat

So what's his forum name then?

I saw him on TV sailing the AR boat Coch y Bonddhu on Windermere, enjoying a stiff breeze. I wondered if he had a bit of experience.

Get with the news Opal Marine are bust.

Baby Bavarias will not be born in the UK until a new daddy is found!

Fred drift - I found your knowledge of the Perp who murdered Phillip Lawrence illuminating (other posting in the Lounge) and your humanity humbling. I just want to get rid of the scumbags!!

Re: Griff\'s boat

You'll see him and the boat on TV around Christmas time, a few months ago they filmed a trip from London to the Solent with the same 2 other characters who were in '3 Men in a Boat'. Idea is that he's teaching them to sail. They had some fun in the Swale and round about, I got slightly involved advising some BBC luvvies when they were planning the filming schedule.

Re: Griff\'s boat

Actually designed by Philip L. Rhodes - an American. Like many American boats built after the war, she was built in Germany by Abeking and Rasmussen (who also built the Concordia yawls). Abeking boats all have the double arrow on the coving stripe.
