Not to a D405GL, but to a Dufour 40 performance, which shares some of the same DNA. But mine is a 2 cabin version, with a massive cockpit locker (where the third cabin would normally go) that is directly aft of the heads. So the holding tank goes in there. I doubt you could do the same.

Only so that I could sit in an anchorage, with the crew swimming, and feel I could still go to the loo. To be honest, it has had very little use over the years to the extent it was probably an unnecessary optional extra. And once it blocked, and that wasn't fun.... :disgust:
I am planning to go to the Baltic soon, though, including the Gota/Trollhatte canals, and there it is pretty much essential.

Ah, I think you mean a black water tank. Grey is from the sink or washing machine so quite rare to have. Yes, black is essential and I would have thought there would be normal spaces built in for black tanks in a boat your size.

thanks, we have a black water tank, but my reading says Turkey requires a grey water tank ie from showers and sinks. we dont have one and dont think we have the space! hence asking for advice.

Quite correct, though the regulation is not often enforced there can be big fines. In any case, whilst human waste is quickly broken down in the sea, detergents are not and are far more harmful to marine life so fitting a grey water tank is the right thing to do wherever you sail. As to where to fit one, its a problem on most boats. On my Jeanneau I managed to get a 100 litre tank and a 70 litre tank into two of the bilges. The bilges are a good place for such tanks as they keep the weight low down. The downside is that you need pumps. To get grey water out I use a Whale Gulper pump which pumps the water up into a black water tank, from which it can be sucked out by the pump out station, so it becomes a two stage process. First the black water is sucked out, then the soapy grey water is pumped in and sucked out. It does have the advantage of flushing through the black water tank.
At first I used one of these things https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/2022073545...=9045126&device=c&campaignid=797602469&crdt=0 to get the water from the galley sink to the tank, because of the long horizontal pipe run involved. Bad idea, Grey water gets smelly quite quickly and scum soon blocks the filter, needing frequent cleaning. I have now gone to an all pumped system with a whale gulper 220 pumping sink water and the two existing shower drain pumps re-plumbed so as to pump both the showers and the washbasins. To achieve that all you need is to connect the washbasin into the pipe from the shower tray to the pump with a tee piece and a non return valve fitted below the tee. The result is that when you operate the pump it empties the basin, but if you put the plug in it then draws through the non return valve and clears the shower tray.
I have written an article for PBO about this system and my electric fresh water flush, manual pump out heads conversion, but so far it has not been published. (Lost due to change of Editor?)

Yes. There are spaces where the factory would have fitted holding tanks if specified at the time of purchase, but they would have taken up the full locker space in the heads. So, rather than go for that, I got the dealer to fit one holding tank in the cockpit locker (for the "main" heads), which means I still have lockers in both heads.
