For the first time in my sailing years I am well and truly grounded on the marvellous muddy Medway outside Gillingham marina! Despite the kind offer of two MOBO skippers and their families we remain solidly encased in glorious mud. To think I only brought the boat out to show my eldest lad the joys of raising the main sail.

My nine year old was at the helm as we turned into the wind to raise the main. Stupidly I'd forgot to check that the engine was still in gear and after a few seconds we slid to a halt. There was nothing to do but hope that nothing was damaged as the kids feared we would topple over. They hadn't bargained with the Medway mud! It set quicker than concrete.

Two things: nobody was hurt and we have enough food and drink to last a month. The sun is setting, the breeze is running at 14 knots and all is well. However, I could murder a cold beer!

If you saw me can you copy the photo by email?

They were your junior crew?- methinks this is your doing and no passing the buck!.

Yes, you were seen and, clearly not in distress, so no assistance offered but no camera either- sorry.

BTW the mud does not set and as you know will know shortly it will release you

I trust you are not Murray?

She let me go shortly after 10pm and just in time for a cool drink . What joy! Won't be doing that again in a hurry. Lesson well and truly learned.

No I'm not Murray by the way - don't know the bloke neither.
