Afternoon all,

Am contemplating moving into Greek waters for a couple of years. I have an Irish passport and am intending to obtain a Greek residence cert for 5 years for my wife. I may rent an appartment out there to ease the process. I'm still working in the UK.

Question is are there paid "local fixers" who can assist with this application? I ask as I watched a tv program the other day about a British woman married to a Greek national moving to Greece. All seemed well until she tried to register to work. It seemed a very very difficult process and I'm not sure if she ever did get a work permit. They got shoved from pillar to post and it ended in tears! Thats dispite her being married to a Greek national whom also dispaired at the process.

I understand a work permit may be diffrent from a residency permit but it quite honestly concerned me over the process hence asking if there is paid help available out there.

Thanks

I'm in the same position and was going to apply this year when UK is still in EU. I now realise that it would have been better to get it out of the way last year. Isn't hindsight wonderful.

I believe that it will be easier to carry out the process this year as we both have a UK passport and just use the same form. However, I don't think it will be much more difficult in 2021. I think that I should have reported staying longer than 90 days in previous years but don't know of anyone who bothered. UK was in EU, passports weren't stamped and nobody tracked anything as far as I could see.

I think that I will need to register next year because my wife would be registering as the non-EU spouse of an EU person. Not a big deal but 2 different forms instead of 2 copies of the same form.

I have a PDF of the form I expected to use this year and will probably convert it to an editable PDF. A friend is going to apply late this year and I wanted to help by documenting the process.

The form I have is "Application for Residence Permit Issue Form 110 (20/07/2009)" . I think that his is the one used by EU citizens and my wife could use it this year. I think she will require a different form next year but I will still use Form 110 with an Irish passport (I think).

I have a list somewhere giving the documentation required and a link to the Greek website giving information about which form to use. It's in Greek, rather confusing and I need to go through it to identify the forms by description and number.

I think that this is the page I found:
Πίνακας Αδειών Αλλοδαπών

This site gave useful information but I haven't looked at it since last year.
How to get a visa and residence permit for Greece

I think I say the program you mention but it was a few months ago. I seem to remember that it was partially her fault for not researching properly and turning up without her Greek husband. She also wanted to work in Greece and that made it more complex.

I don't believe that the process is very difficult, just time-consuming (i.e. Normal for Greece). I spoke to a few people who did it last year and they though it was pretty simple. I hope that this is of some help.

It might help if you can mention roughly where you keep your boat to get suggestions about local agents.

I'm no expert but I would most strongly suggest you register before December 30th 2020. Registration as an EU citizen is easy, but from 1st Jan 2021 you'll no longer be an EU citizen and the residence process for non-EU citizens is more expensive I believe.

I also believe that is the case. I mentioned that I thought that I would need 2 different forms and the same thing would apply for the OP as we can both use an Irish passport.

I had planned to apply this year with our UK passports and using the same type of form for each of us. Next year I think that I need a different form for my wife if I use my Irish passport and her UK one.

I think that this is a translated (Google Translate?) version of the page I linked to in my post #2 above (Πίνακας Αδειών Αλλοδαπών).

I would really like a link to PDF copies of the forms I require.

I already have Form 110 (Application for Residence Permit ) which was used by other UK citizens last year. It should still be the one used by EU citizens (and also UK ones until end of 2020).

I don't know yet which of the items listed above relate to Form 110.
  • Number 1 (Leave for a few days stay) doesn't sound as if it is the one I need
  • It might be item 6 above (Certificate of registration of EU citizens, for other reasons).
  • I don't think 7 (Certificate of permanent residence of an EU citizen ) applies as I don't want to move to Greece permanently but I could be wrong.
If I leave it until 2021 I can use the same form with an Irish passport and a different form for my wife on her UK passport.
Number 10 (Residence permit or ID card of a foreigner) sounds like the correct form for my wife.

Afternoon all,

Try Helen Morgan who works at Trident Boats on Levkas Island. tel: +30 26450 92255 . You will probably need to be present. BTW I got one for my wife last year without any trouble at the Vonitsa police station. Helpful policeman there.

Good luck.

Thanks all for the replies and contact details. Number 10 sounds like it will fit my requirements as well.

Tony, re registering before end of year, how will that make a diffrence with me holding an Irish passport? I'm not sure I see anything changing for me or have I miss read something?

Thanks all (y)

I'm no expert but I would most strongly suggest you register before December 30th 2020. Registration as an EU citizen is easy, but from 1st Jan 2021 you'll no longer be an EU citizen and the residence process for non-EU citizens is more expensive I believe.
Ah just re read this and understand it now. Get the wife registered now yes (y)

I found a note I made some time ago to remind me that someone on an earlier thread mentioned that Form 110 might not be the correct one to use. I am planning to email the relevant department to ask if they can provide the correct form. I'll report back if I ever get a reply and you can download Form 110 here. It does say it is the "Application for Residence Permit Issue" but might have been replaced.

When we first registered (which was back in 2012) we just went to the appropriate police office and asked what we needed to do. They provided the appropriate form and a list of what documents/photographs we needed.

I did some more digging yesterday and found another official Greek Government website giving the same link to Form110 for the residence application. Another document gave detailed notes on completion of forms and gives specific details for Form110 in relation to residence.

I am pretty happy that this is the correct form and the instructions look very promising. The information required is limited to obvious things such as names (applicant, parent), applicant’s Greek address and passport details (number, expiry date). As far as I can see the notes state that all the other fields should be completed by an official.

It does seem to be fairly simple and just a matter of taking the completed form, photographs and some documents to the local police station. I expect that the boatyard will be able to give the address of the nearest suitable police station.

I'll make up notes and an editable PDF fairly soon and post the information here. It can then be updated if anyone uses it and finds more useful infomation. I'm still hoping to visit Greece in a couple of months to work on my boat and apply for residence.

I agree with Tony Cross. When my wife was registered last year the policeman provided the form, filled it in himself and just got her to sign it. We already knew what other documents we would need so it all happened in about half an hour which included a police record check together with the chit-chat and banter these guys like to indulge in. We just had to go back the following day to collect the card as the boss's signature was required and he was away at the time. Pretty painless. I think other posters are making a British mountain out of a Greek molehill.
