I am trying - not very successfully - to research where ferries run to and from. It seems that no destinations are available on some of the search engines - this years schedule not approved yet, or only one sailing in a day, when a local website says there are 5 or 6.

In particular, for crew changes connecting from Athens airport, I am trying to get info on Pireus to Poros, an Island off the eastern Peloponnese, and also Lavrio to Kea, the most NE of the Cyclides.

Any got experience of reality here?

I dont know if this will help but its the best I can do to connect to this site!
All listings from Pireus are available from the Athens News (online) including telephone numbers, days of departure etc.

We have been experiencing similar problems. Many of the routes for summer are not yet scheduled on line. However, several that we have looked at run at the same times in summer as they do at present.

Piraeas to Poros is Hellenic Sealines, either the Flying Dolphin or the Vodafone cat. There were three or four Dolphins per day last year. No experience of Lavrio to Kea but NEL and possibly others run this service.

How many for the crew change ? as I find it cheaper to hire a car from airport "POP`s cars " and do a one way to Galitas/Poros, cost from 70 euro which is a lot cheaper than the Flying dolphin. if more than two. No need to wait for Buses /taxis or boats it takes 2 1/2 hours. Airport to boat

Thanks Bob for that input. 2 crew at a time normally so on the borderline, but may be preferable to them.

Early season sailing: I was worried that in late april, there might not be many sailings. I suspect it will all work out!

Glad it's not just me! We'll be looking for similar routes early May for 2 of us. Maybe Piraeus to Methana. Good tip ref Athens News Online site Ferry Schedule but that had no info either a few minutes ago. If anyone gets any of these to work, pls post here!

Looked at Helenic - last departure is on Aprils fools day! I am pretty sure it is just they have not put there schedule up yet. Great planning.......

I am sure that now the sun is beginning to shine, they will come out of hibernation soon! We are off 1st April - On On

We're sorry, but this functionality is not yet ready
The beta version of Athens News is still a little rough around the edges.

Handle with care and check back in a month's time for the official launch of the new site.

Sorry! my mistake. The ferry times are always in the Athens news, but the website has not been fixed yet!

So how much is the Flying Dolphin from Piraeus to Poros? Mrs S and I are doing this on 16th April, and back the day before Easter. Haven't even tried to book, knowing that there were plenty of sailings last time we were there. Now I'm worried!

€23 so with 2 people you have the bus from Airport plus this, so not worth a hire car.

I really think you need not worry, I found a list of ferry times which showed at least 5 high speed flying dolphins.

Might see you there - we will probably stay the Easter Weekend there unless there are places that will be more fun in terms of festivals

An answer from Hellinic seaways

Yes, I have. Quotes run out for some on 1st April, when the world ends, or Greece finally goes bust, as there are no ferries after that date!

You'll find that Greek ferry timetables are generally not published until a few weeks before each timetable change.

I suggest you look at Hellenic Seaways www.hsw.gr and Nova Ferries www.novaferries.gr and try the same day of the week at whichver months are currently showing. That will give you a general idea.

Athenians go to the islands on Fridays and return on Sundays so there are usually later ferries on those two evenings. However, Flying Dolphins can get fully booked on those days too (big ferries will be okay)

Remember that this year Pashka (Greek Easter) is on the same date as western Easter. It's the biggest holiday of the year so ferry times may be different then.

Its the time saving ,not the cost imo. In the past it has taken me 6-7 hours to get from airport to Poros sometimes the dolphins are fully booked and you have to wait for the slow and I mean slow ferry.and if you are booked on one and the plane is late it is not possible to transfer ticket ,and you will have to pay again.

Thanks Bob for the advice, I will pass it on to the arriving crew.
