Any info or advice on Greek ferries? We have to go from Athens to Poros early July and then back towards the end of July, but maybe also from one of the islands straight to Athens. Any experiences about reliability - we will have flights to catch to get back to Blighty? Is it necessary to book seats or is it ok just to turn up? Only three months to go now - wey hey! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Do you mean Paros? The Romilda is a typical Greek ferry. Slow, late and old. A great intro into the islands and a great ship. It's funny travelling around Greece. The ferry choice is easy. Arrive at the port and ask for a ticket and you get buried in choice, but the right one is the one just arriving in the port. You also don't need to reserve unless you go with a super fast ferry.

Send a pm to my skipper 'grafozz'.

He's got a place in Kefalonia and often drives out there using the ferries.

Usually travels from Italy to Athens then out to the islands.

He may be able to help.

\"Flying Dolphins\"

are the hydrofoil high speed ferries which run (foot passengers only) betwen Piraeus and Poros, Hydra, Ermione, Aegena, etc. etc. all day. They are cheap and reliable.

I'd recommend the Euroseas catamaran. Only runs in the summer, fast, reliable, comfortable. They probably have a website - search for Euroseas and Poros. There are also Flying Dolphins and regular ferries - now all owned by Hellenic Seaways.

I assume you do mean POROS in the Saronic Gulf, not PAROS in the Cyclades?

You need to book if you have a vehicle in the summer and its also wise if travelling from Athens to the island on Friday afternoon or Saturday or from Poros to Piraeus (Athens) on Sunday afternoons.
