Greater than usual weed growth

The consensus on the Gosport Boatyard taxi yesterday was that this years weed growth is far greater than usual. One person offered that this was due to a greater than usual amount of fresh water flowing into the harbour because of the wet weather we have been having. It has also been warmer than usual this winter.

Has anyone else, in other places found it to be worse this year?

Just been lifted out at GPt BY having had a season in Devon - even after a 22hr sail before the lift, there was more weed than last year and the AF was the same.

I reckon its the mild weather.

My last boat had minimal fouling and two or three small (hand-sized) patches of barnacles after five years on teh pontoon in the river at Kirkcudbright. Consensus there is that there is very little fouling because of constant salinity changes as the tide comes in and out and the river flow increases and decreases (ie as they turn Tongland Power Station on and off). I'd be very surprised if decreased salinity made fouling worse.

Emsworth has lots of freshwater flowing into it and I had very little fouling while there so I don't think that's the issue
