Indeed they are.
You never stop troubleshooting mechanical problems.
Which can keep you busy during the rainy/cold days...

Just fixed some corrosion areas on my Mercruiser alpha one drive, based also on the suggestions from this forum.
Switched to magnesium anodes, cleaned the surfaces, etched prime and repainted. Looks great, for the time being.

And then ...back in the water, awaiting for the next trouble. Which regularly appeared:
when the trim is fully down, the boat makes a sort of low-frequency noise, with a minor vibration.
Raising slightly the trim (in what would be the normal cruising position most of the time), it is instead very smooth.
At very low rpm (as when maneuvering) it is unnoticeable.
Could that possibly be normal with this leg?
My experience with sterndrives is only VP duoprop, which did not show such behaviour.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

Do you get same noise when turning? If so could be gimball bearing and / or driveshaft yoke universal joints.

Hmm suspect this just trimming leg against the rubber (if they are still there)bump stops therebye transmitting vibes directly into hull.Should go when you trim out a bit.My v..lv. leg sounds exactly the same.Unless trimmed right up where it sounds blimming awful.
Ps my wild guess is a lot cheaper than uj etc etc .
PPs buy set of earmuffs or turn up radio.

Exercise is bunk.If you are healthy, you do not need it;if you are sick you should not take it.

Hope you\'re right !

Thanks for the suggestions.
Do hope that's the reason, also because I did not notice changes in noise/vibration when turning.
Next time on the water will try to check that more carefully.
Yesterday I just noticed this when rushing away from a sudden storm...

Why?

See, I'm sure you have good reasons for classifying me that way.
I just would be glad to hear them.
Or maybe, this Italian maniac is not clever enough to understand the famous british humour?
Or my english is even worse than I already assumed it is?
Please help.

Re: Why?

Hi Mario.. How are you? I get this all the time with my Swiss colleagues. Because they (and you) speak such excellent English, we assume that our humour is equally well understood!! (Unfortunatly we dont always understand it ourselves especially if you go to places like Liverpool)

By the way are we still on with the davits?

Hope the seasons going well for you down there. So far mainly rain and lots of wind here.

Best regards Nick

Re: Why?

My apologies Mario !

I hold nothing against you, or your boats. As Castaway says, your English is so good I assumed that you would understand our weird sense of humour.

When yotties wander into powerboat froums and powerboaters wander into yottie forums it is obligatory to throw in a bit of banter. My attempt at humour was to infer the truism ( I think anyway) that both parties have much more in common than we think. It can be further defined in wooden yotties versus GRP yotties . Then sub defined into gaff wooden and bermudan wooden and so on and so on........

Is this a British thing Mario ?

Re: Why?

Hello Nick, nice to hear you again.
And thanks for your hints. I still don't understand what Vic Berner meant (particularly when he says "When can I come and have a go ?"...), but it's nice to know he was joking.
You see, actually I am a maniac. But I get nervous when I'm catched...

The season, well, also here is not as good as it should, but can't complain too much because the bigger baby is still in dry dock, so could not use it anyway. Just managed to go to the lake a couple of times with the smaller one.
The davits are now in my garage, ready to be installed in your boat if you want.
I must apologize though, because I didn't ask about delivery costs. Will give you a feedback on that ASAP.
Meanwhile, any plan for a trip to Italy in the near future, from your part?

Re: Why?

Vic, it seems that you were posting your message whilst I was replying to Nick.
OK, got the point. And no, in that sense it's definitely not just British.
Also, I agree that we have a lot in common.
The love for the sea, if nothing else. But that's a lot.
And my love for wooden slow boat makes me feel somehow nearer to the yotties.
My GRP small toy is, well, just a toy for those days when I don't have time to reach my favourite drug on the sea.
I never had the opportunity to learn sailing, I'm sure it's as fascinating as it sounds.
Ciao, Mario.

P.S.: don't stop pulling the legs of all of us, non-mother tongue guys.
After all, it helps us to improve the understanding of our European language!...
