Had a good time watching the start of the Great River Race on Saturday. See website for info www.greatriverrace.co.uk
Over 250 boats being rowed by anything from a team of 4 to a team of 24, racing from Ham, just upstream of Richmond, down to Greenwich. A really good afternoon with a few friends onboard, a few bottles of wine etc in good weather. Picked up a mooring fore and aft between buoys belonging to the PLA. Nice gentleman in PLA launch pointed out that there is normally a cost involved but no charge as it was the race. Safer bet than having numerous craft anchoring all over the river. Surprisingly few spectator craft, a dozen maybe plus those at Hammerton's Ferry moorings. Never seen it before but well worth it if you're down that end of the river next year.
