Well, it was the Girls weekend in Burnham so we slunk off to Shotley on Morgana. As we had such a good experience of the Bristol Arms, we decided to go again.
Knockout.
I had the 1/2 Pint of Prawns from the Bar Menu, which were fresh and delicious, served with a warm baguette.
Then the Broccoli & Cauliflower in Cheese saucefrom the Main Restaurant Menu - but ordered the Ham from the Bar Sandwiches menu on the side. It was beautiful ham and there was loads of it....

All washed down with several gallons af assorted Adnams, Red wine , Glenfiddich and and Coffee.

Brilliant, so go there.

Big fan of the Bristol Arms. (Not just because the Swallows 'phoned mother from there in "We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea".)

Despite being a Punch Tavern it strikes me as being very well run and welcoming. The family had an Italian restaurant at Wroxham previously, (he is aparently Italian), and they really run it as a family business. Mother runs the restaurant, one son is the chef, another is the barman, and a daughter-in-law waits tables.

Huge plus - they make their own puddings - none of the formulaic and ubiquitous Brake Brothers range.

I had the hottest (and most delicious) pepper sauce on a steak I've ever had a few weeks ago there. The fillet steak itself was excellent. I usually feel a bit ripped off by pub food, but I always feel a meal there is good quality and fair value.

If you can get a table by the window it's great to have a view of the Stour.

So another vote for The Bristol Arms (despite the external colour scheme, which looks even worse from the river).

Has there been a change of owner/manager?
Is this place no longer run by the guy who used to sell anything and everything on the cheap? (I think he may have been running a cheap wine merchant type place in Ipswich too.) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Haven't been in there for a while - it's so far for us! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
