With such great weather it was good to be able to skive off for a sail. Wall to wall sunshine and 10 -15 knots of breeze:

Is the Swan the overtaking vessel or are you?

Either way the overtaking vessel should keep clear! Dangerous situation developing here!

That's right. Tempt a stinkie convert back again.
I must say there are more boats in the south basin than we had in the north yesterday. Even on Sunday afternoon I only counted 9 yachts and the weather was just the same.

I'm sure someone will be along to tell you your luff looks a bit slack. Looks fine to me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hope, one day, to get to the north basin. The wind was right for it yesterday, but I wanted to get back to Blakesholme in my lifetime! Beating to windward on the lake is quite a challenge, as you well know. I saw the same damn boathouse in almost exactly the same place six tacks later!

Ah, yes, been there, and again, and again, and again.
Problem is the lake can be a bit too narrow to make up the leeway in a long beat. I never managed to sail down to Fellfoot from our mooring in 4 years. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I made it from Fell Foot into the North basin three times in the season I had on Windermere. The first (early April?) was when it was blowing F6, gusting F8 with a YM instructor on board pushing the boat to the point that I thought we were going to capsize. He was finally persuaded to put a reef in when we totally lost control of the steering to weather helm. Dunno how quick we were going but Fell Foot to Ferry Nab didn't seem to take long, it was an exhilerating ride !

In the afternoon, on the way back South, we were holding a steady 6.6 knots on the GPS with two reefs, wind was SW, according to a more sophisticated (and safely moored!) boat with a wind speed indicator it was 30 - 36 knots. The boat was Whistler, the 27ft long keeler now owned by Dinghyman.

That day was the most exciting sailing I ever want to have, I and a friend had booked the day as tuition with the instructor. When we arrived it was horrible but the instructor was up for it, and the wind just kept on getting stronger.

Both the other visits to the North basin were motor assisted!
