My boat is currently in being re-engined so I chartered (bareboat) a Sealine S41 for my holiday - Was so pleased with the service that I thought I would post on here in case anyone else is thinking of bareboat charter. Service/handover was exemplary - boat was in great condition, fully valeted and equipped with everything you could think of. Price was in line with others I looked at and the fact that the boat was local to me (Port Solent) was a bonus. It really was a pleasure to deal with this company (AFL Leasing) and I shall certainly use the boat again - if anyone wants more info, a search on here for either 'Dream Dancer' or 'The Observer' should get you to the right site.

I've often wondered why forumites don't charter privately to/from each other, either to experience a larger boat or just cruising a different area.

I guess the legalities and insurance issues get in the way. I certainly wouldn't mind anybody competent using mine occasionally. Having only used it twice this season it seems a terrible waste to have it in the water and not going anywhere.

I agree totally, but as you say, insurance might be an issue, plus there are some pretty onerous rules about what the boat has to have etc But I gues no reason why forumites shouldn't do 'informal' deals with each other.

Strictly, there's no such thing as 'chartering privately'. The only payment allowed for a vessel NOT to be "commercial" is a contribution to direct costs (e.g. fuel, mooring).

It's nice of Barry to endorse our business and I would equally like to endorse him as an exceptionally responsible charterer who I would be very happy to have as a future customer.
