This season I have decided to polish my prop rather than antifoul. I understand there are products such as lanolin grease which can be applied to prevent fouling. Does anyone have experience of using a simple waterproof grease or vaseline? I don't quite see the point in spending money on a specialised product???

You will get as many different answers as you care to read. I use a lanolin product myself, and while I wouldn't say it was a miracle cure, it seems to make cleaning-off the next year a lot easier.

I put waterproof grease all over my folding prop but it does not last as long as my antifoul but i can just reach it to clean it .

but i like the idea of motobike chain oil.

Three seasons ago I greased the entire hull and found she stayed clear of passengers until river mud (!/2 tide mooring) placed a film of mud on the grease, thats when they started to stick. would work well on a full tide mooring I think, have greased prop for years and find with rotation the grease is soon done and requires the usual scrape off. Thats my experience for what its worth.

Plain lanolin is not expensive.

The more specialised lanolin based products like Propshield certainly are. I tried this last year and while it did not stop fouling, it was reduced and it was a very easy cleaning job.

I just cleaned my prop and shaft on our maxprop this weekend and topped up the grease. Haven't greased the exterior yet.
Does normal marine grease not do the job? Do you put it on the shaft as well?
