Grease or something else?

Hi,

The helm seat on our Larson slides in an aluminium rail.. It looks like there is some grease in there but its more sticky that slippery make the seat VERY hard to move.. It would probably be easier to move with nothing there at all..

I am thinking about taking the seat off and cleaning the rails but I am wondering what, if anything, to put on the rails.. Is grease the right thing or should I use something else?

Dry teflon spray, perhaps?

+1 for the Teflon (PTFE) spray. Used by yachties for lubricating sail slot tracks.

Good for sweaky UPVC windows at home as well !

Once you have cleaned all the old gunk off I would really recommend this stuff.

It's a bit of an exaggeration to say you only need one drop, but you need very little. We use it for rails and it seems to be more water reliant than spay products like Teflon.

Might be an idea to use Fluid Film - it's non-petroleum based (lanolin apparently) and seems really good for many lubricating/protecting applications. I just received a spray can of the stuff yesterday from a marine supplier (Black dog marine) as it was recommended to me for use on my M/bike chain - mulit-purpose eh?

Thanks.. Heading down to the boat tomorrow so will have a look in the chandler in the morning and see what they have available.. Otherwise I will have to order something..
