Grease for wheel bearings

Quick one:
Rebuilding the bearings on my Wayfarer's trailer (little 250kg units with 8" wheels).
The only grease I have to hand is general purpose lithium stuff.
Trailer to be used normally on short runs of about fifteen minutes.

Is the lithium stuff suitable? Or do I need to use a higher temperature type of grease?

(btw the bearings do not get immersed at launching as there is a separate launching trolley)

I always used the standard car type bearing grease and neve replaced a bearing in 20 years on the laser trailer. Just gave it a squirt every time it was used, longest journey was Edinburgh to Cornwall.

I also used car bearing grease on my wayfarer trailer. It was the same as you describe, splitting off the road trailer for launching.

You'll be absolutely fine for the sort of running you mention. In fact, you could probably even use goose fat for that!

I would use the same grease that I use for the car wheel bearings, namely Castrol LM described as, " A multi-purpose high melting point lithium base grease suitable for most automotive applications including chassis and wheel bearing lubrication"

If the trailer was used for launching I would use a grease that is more water resistant.

Don't over fill the bearing hubs. Grease the bearings well but no more than half fill the free space in the hub, if even that much.
