Grease for a sea-tiger

Having taken the windlass (SL Seatiger 555) off the deck, I think I ought to change its grease (which can only be done by removing the base-plate). Recommendations, please, for type of grease. And do I need to wash out all the old grease first? There is a lot of it, as there ought to be, since the windlass works on the principle of having a sort of reservoir (more like a heap) of grease from which the largest cog picks up and distributes.

I use compound 90 , like they use in gear boxes for automobiles , and no problem for more than 20 years now .
