We anchored at Osea, as we have done for many years, but for the first time, with the anchor dragging on the weed there and the boat lying wind against tide, the anchor warp got caught round the keel. We managed to shorten it up so that we could motor back, and as we were passing Marconi sailing club, their safety boat came across and told us we had a chain trailing from our bow.
I explained what had happened and straight away they said would we like them to see if they could free it for us. From outside the boat, it only took them a few minutes to see what had happened, and they managed to unwind the chain from round the keel, and get the anchor out from where it had been wedged at the back of the keel, between the fin and the bulb.
Very grateful thanks to a pair of first class seamen! Good to see that "the custom of the sea" of giving assistance to anyone in need of it is still alive and well at Marconi.
