Grapnel anchor

Not if it accidently folds when on the bottom. I looked at a small one for my dinghy, but that one didn't look too safe locke in position, perhaps just a badly made one.

I use a 5kg as a back up or kedge, no problems with the locking part, just need to make sure its in place. They are easy to store and have good enough holding a a secondary, but wouldn't use as a primary. My boat is 6.5m and weighs 1.5 tons.

Try a Flook. I've used one for years and I swear by them.

Jimmy Green marine

BEWARE, I took Grahams advice and rang up to get a spare anchor as I only have one spare and the diagram on the linked page showed you need three. I asked a nice lady for an anchor then ended up spending a fortrune on other stuff!! She convinced me that my boat would sink if I didn't have this or that, only joking I think it was me asking the questions. Anyway I now have a massive long spare anchor rope with a thimble getting spliced in, more spare anchor rope for the spare spare, a flying anchor with connections for the rope, another spare anchor, plus a box of other goodies that I need. I just need to sort out some more storage space /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Thanks for the tip Graham /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: Word of advice

Those Flook things hold like hell in the right conditions. I demonstrated how they fly out in the marina (after a few drinkies), by launching off the swim platform. Sure enough, it sailed off almost to the other side of the marina. "And you set it by giving a sharp tug, like this..."

Took us half an hour and the tender to get the thing up again.

Oh dear, that was to be used as the spare for my tender, I may never get it out!!

Re: got my Flook

Dave, let me know how you get on, I ordered a load of rope but no chain, so will be interested in your experiment. They told me up to 5 working days for delivery, so mine may be at home when I get back.

Re: got my Flook

Enjoy. Ours saved our bacon in Newtown Creek earlier this year. As the tide came in, we swung round, but the yacht behind didn't, as he was stuck on his keel. We only avoided being swung into them because I deployed the kedge. Hagrid was impressed, anyway.
