What us the consensus on this manufacturer? In the market for a rib around 5.5 metres to 6 metres. I want it to be reasonable fuel efficient, utterly reliable and most importantly a really comfortable ride in the Solent chop.
Outright speed is not a priority 35 it’s would be great but not critical

Should comfortably accommodate 4 and occasionally 6 plus two spaniels. Mostly for loot long round the Solent but with occasional longer trips

What does anyone recommend? I think it will cost about £45K. Are Grand any good?

Would appreciate any advice.

Looked at them at the Boatshow and I liked them looked very comfortable and refined unlike the industrial look of ribctaft

for the number of people you are talking about you will need to be nearer the 6 m mark or just over which will also handle the Solent chop better. This size will push you towards a 200 hp outboard though which will stuff the price up

I agree that Grand look good but I’d want to read more experience and feedback from owners before buying one. Whereas Ribcraft have been around for ages and have a great reputation, and their ability to cope with the rough stuff is legendary. I’ve owned quite a few different RIBs, the Ribcraft was the best of all, although our Cobra came fairly close.
There’s a forum for RIB owners, worth asking there.

We have a Grand G-line 750 & we love it. This size is great for the Solent chop & is definitely comfortable. Build quality is very good & has proved very reliable so far. I can’t speak for the smaller Grands but we had a 6 metre Brig Nav which, whilst we found the build quality was good, the ride in the chop, coupled with the throttle position could not be described as comfortable. The boat was more than capable of handling it but my back wasn’t, hence the change up. I think expecting ‘really comfortable’ (in heavy chop) in a 5.5 or 6 is asking too much IMO.
The RIB forums tend to be negative toward anything not British built for some reason but my experience with Grand says different.

you can say that again about the rib forums. Terrible click of people who are stuck in the past and think all you do with a rib is dive or crash through the rough stuff all the time go to Ribnet at you peril

Have used a Grand G650 a few times this summer and am taking delivery of my own 650 in early 2022, which will have a Suzuki 200 on the back. Handled the Solent chop very well and always felt safe and sea worthy. I like the aft seating arrangement in the U shape, and the bow sunpad. Decent leisure focussed Rib I would say that seems well made and a decent hull. Cruises very well at 18/20 knots, uses 0.8L per mile at that (200hp).
