Hello,

After 10 years sailing dinghies I have decided to throw away my wetsuit and buy a day sailer. I've got about £8K to spend. I'd prefer an inboard, furling jib and not a bilge keel.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
David

Yeoman, Kinsman, Squib, Loch Long, but you can pick up a Hunter Medina, Hunter Sonata and even a good wee Westerly for that money, why do you need to have a day sailer with an inboard, not many have them

Somewhere to rest the weary head and put the kettle on is within your budget , think small cruiser and the possibilites are vast
Have fun

By daysailor, do you mean no cabin, or just a boat with minimal accomodation.
Any special reason for an inboard engine? A lot more hassle than an outboard for a sub 23 footer.

Okay forget the inboard I can see that it's actually more hassle in the long run.

I want a cabin which I can sleep in if I have too, basic cooking facilities toilet etc.

I will be using the boat primarily in Mallorca.

Thanks
David

I agree with comments about an inboard vs an outboard for this size of vessel.

My suggestion would be a Newbridge Corribee, lots made and usually for sale circa £3 / £3.5k. Great little sailing boats and, will also look after you. not the most accomadation you can fit into 20'9", but more than enough for the day sailing (and odd night over / weekend for 1, or a couple) but also with enough cockpit for 2.

For the £4 -5k you have left from your budget she could be treated to new sails and a degree of new bits and bobs...........and still have plenty of cash over!

And finally and most importantly, as well as being a "Proper boat" they (IMO!) look "right" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As you can probably guess, I wish I had never sold mine. Apart from her being fin keeler (on a drying mooring legs are a pain!!).

"Huge choice" How right you are and isn't that exactly the problem. I'm just hoping that a few seasoned sailors can highlight a couple that stand out from the crowd otherwise I can see that my search will be a lengthy one.

A fin keel Sonata would be worth looking at.Fast but able to stand up in a breeze. basic accomodation for 4 people .Well inside your budget.

If you're a dinghy sailor I would suggest something lively like a Sonata. As they are still raced there are some very well maintained boats for sale with loads of good, recent gear, and you don't need to pay more than about £6K. Which would leave you some money for a furler.

Re: Link Works Now

A bit more dramatic than the pic I found /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifI hope this doesnt put the guy off ,most people wouldnt be using spinnakers in that wind strength unless racing.

[/ QUOTE ]Will you want to trailer it? Have you considered the Macgregor 26? Not everyone's choice (or mine) but the combination of fair power performance with a good-sized outboard with the ability to have 'a bit of a sail' might suit you well in Majorca. Should also be very suitable to get you between the islands and even over to the mainland via Ibiza in good weather.
