Morning all,I connected up the aforesaid Plotter yesterday (I use one of the small magnetic aerials on a 10m cable) and got this message.It was working well last season,the only thing I have done since is to transfer some Garmin Bluechart maps on to it.Tried new set up,new location,zilch,any ideas anyone? .Is there any way of testing the aerial? TIA/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I really like the Garmins GPS's apart from the BNC connector for the ariel. If yours connect with a BNC connector try replacing the connector with a new one first. Had to do mine twice now is 5 years because they eventually corrode. Found two models of BNC connector at £5, but one stripped down into lits of pieces and could be soldered in place, the other relied on screwing the cable in. Went for the soldered option and it works well.

I helped a friend of mine with a troublesome Garmin 128 that had a similar problem that you describe.
It turned out that his original GPS antenna coax had an internal break.
I got a replacement antenna from GPSBitz who were very helpful. I actually bought one of their standard antenna's which are waterproof and gutted the original Garmin marine antenna and fitted the new antenna inside the old pod.......saved about £40!
Colin at GPSBitz told me to check the GPS unit by testing the voltage across the inner and outer of the antenna socket in the back, you should get between 3 - 5 volts. If this checks out ok, then it is most likely an antenna problem.
I didn't have to do this in the end because I had a spare antenna for my own handheld Garmin unit, when I plugged this into my friends GPS it sprang into life........
