GPSMAP 276c with AIS?

Okay, so i know the Garmin GPSMAP 276c isnt exactly new tech, but i have discovered a Nasa AIS engine onboard (which i havent got a clue if it works yet) and was wondering if anyone has any experience NMEA'ing the data to the garmin?

or is it stop being a tight ass and get a plotter that will receive it?
