I had not used GPS before I started boating, some have it in cars, but where else is it used apart from boats, car nav centres and trackers.

I am sure the whole system was developed by the US military for ballastic and normal missiles. Also I believe that although Loran And Omega where available to submarines, the errors where huge, I think gps is used for Subs.

How do subs pick up gps hundreds of feet below the surface? I've sometimes wondered how they navigated underwater.

It is an American system for military use primarily and can be turned off by them at any time. The European Galilio system will be another few years yet, and will be independent with about 30 satellites I think. By that time the yanks will have improved theirs even more no doubt.

<hr width=100% size=1>What does this mean then?

There was enough trouble in KRT when ID badges were first issued. Surely they are not tagging you all now!

GPS for tourist guides in Venice

There is a new system of handheld tour guide devices for use in Venice
When you walk near one of hundreds of worthy sites, the device plays you details about where you are.
