My ancient Garmin 50 I think is telling me it no longer wants to play.
It is stuck on a Lat. and Long. and will not budge and gives me no info at all.
Any advice will be gratefully received.

I expect you have tried all the things like disconnecting power and then re initialising.
I would suggest a visit to Garmin's website which a Google search should get for you, this should give you a means of attacking the problem or at least communicating with them.

Garmins reputation for customer service is excellent.
