GPS with big numbers for poor eyes - suggestions?

I can read my Magellan ok, but Captain John needs reading glasses. Is there a handheld he could buy that has big figures and a clear display like the fixed ones have? There must be plenty of yachties who need a clearer display. Thanks for any suggestions.

Surely a pair of bi-focals will cost less than a new GPS - plus how do you read Charts and Almanacs??

My vision has recently gone bad, so I've the same problem now. My solution has been to buy a Silva "Sea data" GPS repeater which has big enough digits. Comes to just a bit more than a new pair of glasses....

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that with most GPS's you could discard other screen information and just leave L&L on the screen by merely setting it that way.

Try to get a Philips AP VI, which is not latest generation GPS, but can still compete with the best. Its normal screens are good, but it also has one display in outsize figures. I wear glasses for reading, but do not need them for the MKVI which I have had for 8 years - and it is still the best gps on the boat.

Unfortunately, they are a bit scarce and still expensive on the Used market, but try Comat ( Peter Cotten) on the Isle of Wight.

We are afflicted with increasing lack of close-up vision. Our solution is to buy lots of cheap reading glasses, from street markets and department stores. We have dozens of them and we leave them everywhere that they might come in handy, several pairs on the boat. The last ones we bought cost 50p per pair.

I've got the same type of GPS as Colin, the Philips Mk6. It has two big number screens - one for position (lat/long), and the other for navigate (speed/log/waypoint etc). An excellent GPS with a screen that has not been bettered by other GPS makes.
