Evening all,

Is there any other system - apart from SPOT, that tracks your position 24/7 and is accessible by family and friends.

I seem to recall that there is a commercial device that retails at about £150 plus tracking
facility

many thanks for all replies,

David

Yes there is. It's the Garmin GTU 10.

I have ordered one for my Spaniel!

If you sail in a 3g coverage area and have got an iPhone your friends can use the findiphone app to display your current location on Google maps on any Apple device, there is a similar Android app.

As a result of this post I tried "Glimpse". Free & works a treat.

Downside is the 4 hour limit.

Google Latitude is also free (for Android) and has no limitations that I know of. It allows the sharing of locations between people who agree to sign up in a group. You invite & accept as required. Very usefull if trying to meet someone in a big city or to keep track of a gaggle of cruising boats that are coast hopping. It requires internet access for reporting &, obviously, a GPS enabled phone.
