Does anyone know what colour of cables to connect together from a Garmin 126 GPS to a M-Tech MT-500 DSC VHF radio. <span style="color:blue"> </span>

Hi Dave,
Probably a good idea to edit your post to remove your e-mail address. It could be harvested and used to send you far more information about penis enlargement/viagra etc. than you'd like.

Can’t speak for the Garmin, but the M-TECH colours are:
NMEA rx (+) Brown
NMEA rx (-) Red
NMEA tx (-) Orange
NMEA Ground / Tx (-) Shield (bare wire)
Hope that's of some use.

Garmin 128 cables:
Ground - Black
NMEA Out - Blue
So just connect Garmins blue wire to M-techs brown wire, Garmins black wire to M-techs red wire.
Remember to select NMEA/NMEA as the interface from Garmin.
But then again you could have googled the Garmin manual

and looked at pages 44 for NMEA output format selection, and page 59 for colour coding of the cables...

I've done it all as you advise but still the radio says "No GPS"

NMEA Cable
In order for the position reporting features of your DSC transceiver to function, an operating GPS navigation receiver must be connected to your transceiver. The supplied data cable plugs into the 8 pin connector on the transceiver’s rear panel and the other end connects to the NMEA data output from your GPS navigation receiver. Your GPS must output the $GPRMC NMEA data sentence. Refer to your navigation receiver manual for information about its NMEA output settings and connections.
NMEA SET
Allows NMEA sentences from navigation equipment manufactured to earlier
versions of the NMEA standard to provide Lat/Lon position coordinates and
UTC time.
• Press the MENU key. Menu topics appear in the display.
• Use the SELECT knob to position the cursor on the NMEA SET topic.
• Press the ENT key. The NMEA CHECKSUM menu appears in the display

• When your selection is complete, press the ENT key to store the setting
and exit the menu.

Tried all of that....radio still says "No GPS"

It works!!!!! Apparently the BAUD setting was wrong on my GPS.....had to be 4800. Many thanks to all for advice.
