GPS repeater always shows \"17 degrees stbd\"

I recently purchased and installed a NASA CLIPPER GPS repeater connected to a Furuno 1650 plotter.
It shows position ok and works fine in 'STEER' mode but in 'DEST' mode, it ALWAYS shows the relative bearing of the target as '17 degrees Stbd.'
Any techies out there got any idea what is going on? Any suggestions much apreciated!

Re: GPS repeater always shows \"17 degrees stbd\"

the nasa clipper is simply a repeater - it just shows on the screen what it is receiving from the gps.. But it only picks up some of the gps output sentences so, for example, if your gps shows true bearings the repeater will show magnetic unless you have gone into the gps and set mag deviation at zero.

its difficult to imagine how the problem could be anything other than the info coming from the gps since the repeater is functioning on position. so I suggest you check which sentence the nasa needs and then check that the furuno is outputting that sentence and is set to do so in the correct units. are they both operating on the same version of nmea?

my repeater and manula are on the boat so I cant tell you what the nasa needs. however I have found nasa themselves very helpful so maybe google them and phone.

Thanks for the responses but, sorry guys, I was wasting your time. A re-reading of the (slightly misleading) manual has set me straight. The numbers it shows are not meant to be a relative bearing, they are meant to be the waypoint name - but it seems it displays an (arbitrary) waypoint number instead - which I took to be a bearing!
