yesterday the GPS decided I was doing 83 knots at one point, switched off and on again then it wouldnt lock on to any sattelites.

Tried it again this morning, first it had us doing 16 knots still attatched to the pontoon .The manual suggested reintializing it which I did.First no result then a bit later on it started working again and continued to work properly all day.

Its a Magellan Sporttrack powered through its bracket from the 12volt system. Its supposed to be waterproof but after some crappy weather a few weeks ago it got a bit of mist inside the screen. The mist is now gone.

Anyone experienced something similar?

I had a Garmin that also had some misting after some heavy rain (it was also water proof?) They display later failed completely caused by the moisture. If you rely on it, it might be worth getting a spare one now.

Tried it again this morning walking around the front garden it seems to be OK and the mist has dissapeared .its more of a convenience than a vital bit of kit If i manage to get away anywhere distant this year Ill get another one.

i would get another Sportrack if they still make them, its worked faultessly up to now for 4 or 5 years. Also it locks on OK on its bracket inside the cabin of the boat, which is where it will stay now.i used to use it on a cockpit bracket as well.

It might be worth leaving it switched on with the light on for an hour if you're on ship's battery, to help dry out.

Good thinking, ill leave it on with the backlight overnight.Seems to be back to normal again now and the mist is gone from the screen. Andersons are quite fast, maybe I was doing 83 knots /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
