A friend has asked me:
can anyone recommend a good GPS system that can be used on land and sea? It's a Christmas present and there seems to be a lot of choice out there.

So I thought I'd pass this on to the experts out there

Try the Magellen Explorist XL, excellent charts, road maps and OS maps available for them. I've had 1 for a year with absolutely no issues at all.

Re: GPS - Land and sea ... near all the HH later versions ...

Lowrance iFinders ... Garmins ... Magellans ... etc. You'll find that many of the so-called Car systems are actually same gear re-bagded or slightly different case ...

Even such as the PDA based Mio range .... I've just acquired a Mio 168 with TomTom for road use ... and installed Ozi-ExplorerCE for boat use and land areas that TomTom misses ... fits in pocket and works a treat.

What-ever you buy - you will end up having to install one side or other and IMHO it is better to get a HH based machine as that will generally be easier to install other maps etc. Some in fact have both map-sets available ... Garmin, Lowrance etc.
