So, trying to get into the electronic chart thing. The GPS (Garmin 60) on 'Drifter has a USB connection. Plugged into laptop running Seapro 3000. GPS displayed a Lat Long some 1/2 mile different from that on the Laptop.

Applying first principles, connected laptop to handheld GPS (Magellan 120) and had a reading on the laptop which was within .05 of a mile of the reading on the GPS.

Given the age of the boat's GPS, I would suspect that the problem lies there. Can anyone advise what I need to adjust on the GPS 60 to remove the error?

Would suggest you put the boat in a known charted position and check the readings then.

Plus is damping set too high etc. ? (Averaging of signal computation)

The GPS Lat / Long should read same as GPS in text ... as to cross on displayed chart - I get that 1/2 mile - even more in some locations ... though datum set correctly. In fact I can't use SHOM charts ... as they simply don't agree with other chart versions I have ... that's UK south coast and over here in Baltic.

EG : My home is approx. 3km inland and 5km from entrance of port ... Swedish Chart puts me spot on ... WGS84 .... The same chart by SHOM - stated as WGS84 puts me not 1/2 mile but approx. 6km NNW out in Baltic.
Only way I can get it to read correct is to create an offset setting inh the chart properties ...
