Can anyone advise me,

Is there chart plotting software available to display a position on my IPAQ 3630? Using my laptop the RYA plotter is great - but my laptop isn`t, and my IPAQ is far smaller, uses less power etc. And it has navigated me across europe by road so I`m sure it could plot a position on a few local charts.

Before anyone points out the obvious, I do plot onto a proper paper chart - but a moving map is a nice confirmation.

Thanks

John

Hi John,
I don't know your model of IPAQ - is it a Windows Mobile PDA? If so, we've discussed some options for chart plotting on these gadgets before - try searching on PDAs etc.

The packages I've come across are
1. Maptech Pocket Navigator
2. C-emap from C-MAP
3. OziExplorer
4. Navstation
5. WinChart Planner

I set up an old steam-driven iPAQ (3660) running CE Windows with the pocket version of OzieExplorer using scanned paper charts.
The GPS goes into an expansion card slot in a jacket, but modern iPAQs with integral GPS would be tidier.
The advantage is low power draw and portability. I use mine as a quick reference backed up with paper charts and fixed GPS. As a singlehander it's reassuring to know you can get a general fix without leaving the helm too long.

Merlin3435,

May I suggest to you the MapTech Marine products for your Marine Charts and the Memory-Map software to use them on your PDA.

Basically what you do is you install the Memory-Map software to your PC/LapTop and PDA, then import the Marine Charts into the software and send them to the PDA.

Its very simple to do, and performs extremly well.

You could contact Memory-Map on 0870 740 9040 or via email at sales@memory-map.co.uk

They also have a very competant Support Team.

Thanks

Mortiki
