Switched on the GPS for the first time in quite a while yesterday (it's an old AP Mk 9). It kept beeping at me saying it hadn't picked up any satellites so I ran an internal check and an antenna check and they were good. So I decided to reinitialise it from scratch and 5 minutes later it was working, having picked up 5 or 6 satellites and the lat/lon compared well with my handheld. Everything was normal except the date, which showed April '03. I checked every parameter that was changeable, but reasonably sure date and time is picked up from the satellites (the time was perfect by the way). Anyone else come across this phenomenon?

I have an inherited JRC GPS which is also always a day behind. Must be the software hasn't allowed for some quirk in GPS time.

your post stirred a dim memory. i seem to recall that there was an update to the gps system a few years back and some of the early sets couldn't cope after a certain date. anyone remember that?

I heard someone call Solent CG on Saturday as their GPS was not working and to confirm that the system was ok. My GPS was on for the first time this year and was using 10 satellites which is unusual !

Yes. There was some sort of 'roll-over' It happened in August 2002 (I think) - something to do with adjusting time clocks in satellites. They were dure to 'run out' then and had to be updated with new software?
