Government Seeking BW Transition Trustees

"Saxton Bampfylde" agency.

What a weird name, is it an anagram for something rude, sounds like someone fro the league of gentlemen.

Are they well respected?

Idly reading the Information for Candidates - with no particular intent in mind, you understand, - I came across the following which may be of interest (the bold bit is my adjsutment):

Navigations in the charity
The Government is considering whether the new charity should be responsible for managing Environment Agency (EA) navigations to reflect the Government’s vision for a national waterways charity. Details of the EA navigations can be found at: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/boating/107625.aspx

Government Funding
The charity will receive on-going Government funding through a funding contract. The level of funding and the length of the contract will be a matter for negotiation between the Government and the Transition Trustees.

Public Consultation
A public consultation on the charity will be launched in early 2011 which will set out the proposals on governance, legal basis, charity obligations, the charitable business model and whether the navigations in England and Wales are to be included. The intention is that the charity will be fully functioning by April 2012, provided that the usual state aids and other clearances have been achieved.

Wheez

Sounds a great wheeze for the government to opt out of funding even more quickly and blame the ensuing chaos on the new charity.
